The U.S. health care system faces growing challenges—the country’s population is rapidly aging; health care reform is introducing millions more patients into the system; and there is a shortage in the number of trained health care professionals to care for these patients.
A competent, capable workforce is essential for improving the health and wellness of the public and responding to public health threats. Investment in clinical workforce planning—recruitment, onboarding, and retention—will help ensure that your health center maintains the high quality primary care workforce needed to provide the best possible health and health-related services to those most in need in your community.
The related functions of identifying/hiring, then training/acculturating, and ultimately retaining mission-driven providers committed to quality care and outstanding customer service lie at the very heart of the health center mission.
The NACHC Recruitment, Onboarding, Engagement & Retention Toolkit provides important resources for these critical tasks, with links to relevant web resources providing user friendly access to valuable additional information. The Toolkit, which is regularly updated, is intended to be dynamic and expandable. The Toolkit provides samples from other health centers/PCAs that have proven to be successful.
Find information and links within the full Toolkit or from the list below. We encourage you to modify the tools and forms to fit the circumstances of your health center.
