Jennifer Metzler – May 2008 National Community Health Advocate of the Month
The award goes to Jennifer Metzler, Co-Executive Director of Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, Inc (AHCH). Jennifer joined the Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless team in 1995 and has been a fierce grassroots advocacy force ever since. With her number one goal and priority firmly set on organizing and advocacy, Jennifer established an advocacy committee that hit the ground running. She held a highly successful advocacy forum for training and strategy and created a detailed plan with her team of dedicated advocates—and boy is it working! The grassroots momentum is building among patients, staff and board members and creating a ripple effect of positive change at AHCH and in the community—not the least of which is a bus stop near the health center so patients can more easily and conveniently seek care. Even the smallest victories can make a difference in people’s lives. Just ask Jennifer and her team.
