The National Association of Community Health Centers has pledged to become one of 59 non-profit charter members with the Employers of National Service initiative, connecting people who served with AmeriCorps or Peace Corps to top employment opportunities. By joining this initiative, NACHC has committed to include a line in all job announcements encouraging AmeriCorps, Peace Corps and other national service alumni to apply. Additionally NACHC will include a question in all job applications inquiring if the applicant has served with AmeriCorps or the Peace Corps. NACHC is a longtime supporter of national service.
What is the Employers of National Service initiative?
The Corporation for National and Community Service, the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps Alums, and the Franklin Project launched Employers of National Service in recognition of the unique and transferable skills that participants develop during national service. Employers of National Service gives national service alumni additional opportunities to apply their skills in the workplace, while employers gain new access to a dedicated, highly qualified, and mission-oriented pool of potential employees.
How Does an Organization Become an Employer of National Service?
To become an Employer of National Service, organizations must demonstrate policies and practices that emphasize the skills that national service alumni bring to the workplace. A commitment to be an Employer of National Service should include at least one of the following:
- Explicitly indicate in relevant job announcements an interest in recruiting
- AmeriCorps members and returned Peace Corps volunteers.
- Provide an opportunity for job applicants to identify themselves as AmeriCorps or Peace Corps alumni.
Organizations will receive special recognition when they exceed the basic commitments, and organizations will be asked to provide information regarding their efforts and achievements for an annual Employers of National Service summary report.
Pledge to become an Employer of National Service today by completing this form and NACHC will forward your information to the Corporation for National and Community Service for recognition.
