NACHC Statement Regarding Appointment of Dr. Mary Wakefield as Administrator of HRSA
Statement of the National Association of Community Health Centers regarding the appointment of Dr. Mary Wakefield as Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA):
On behalf of America’s Health Centers, we congratulate Dr. Mary Wakefield on her appointment to serve as the new Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The HRSA agency is a key partner in improving access to health care for underserved and vulnerable populations in rural and urban medically underserved/shortage communities including the poor, uninsured, people of color, migrant farm workers, those who are homeless or living with HIV and AIDS. The health centers we represent are deeply rooted in their communities, and report the current health and economic challenges they face are among the most serious in a generation.
We look forward to working with Dr. Wakefield on President Obama’s goals of expanding care at health centers, addressing severe provider shortages across the country, and meeting the challenges of both today and tomorrow.
