For over 30 years, Community Health Centers have relied on the 340B program. Because of the program, millions of patients have benefited from comprehensive services and lower-cost medications at no additional cost to the taxpayer.
Unfortunately, drug manufacturers have been able to refuse to ship 340B-priced drugs to local pharmacies that contract with health centers and other organizations because the law is ambiguous. The 340B program’s long-term stability and health centers’ ability to care for patients is at risk as a result.
We thought this problem could be resolved through the courts; however, it’s clear now that reforming 340B through legislation is the only path that will stabilize the program for the next 30 years.
NACHC has recently formed the Alliance to Save America’s 340B Program (ASAP 340B) to relay to Congress the urgency of the current situation and the need for comprehensive reforms.
Will you please take three steps to help ensure that the health center voice is heard and that we have the best data to share with policymakers?
Together, we can ensure that Congress and the public understand how crucial the 340B program is to the viability of health centers!
