Memorial Day Statement from NACHC President and CEO Tom Van Coverden

On Memorial Day we remember and honor the courageous men and women of our armed forces who gave their lives to serve our country.ย  Many of the employees and patients in our health centers across the country know someone who made the ultimate sacrifice, have family members in the military, or are military veterans themselves. We recognize their service and selfless sacrifice and express our deep appreciation for their commitment to preserving the liberties and freedoms we enjoy.

As I reflect on the importance of service, I am so proud of our health centers who make a special effort to serve our Nationโ€™s military veterans and their family members. ย Health centers proudly serve anyone who needs care, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay, including over 335,000 brave men and women who served in our armed forces. In communities throughout the country, health centers have forged successful partnerships with local Veterans Administration providers to ensure more veterans can have timely access to primary care, especially in rural areas and communities where providers are scarce. ย As the VA moves forward to implement the Department of Veterans Affairs Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks, or VA MISSION Act, I look forward to supporting our health centers expand their role in providing high quality healthcare to veterans.

On this Memorial Day our thoughts and gratitude are focused on the military service members in our families, our extended families, of our communities and our country.ย  All of us owe a huge debt of gratitude to each service member who has stood for us, to preserve freedom and safety as Americans.
