Health Information Exchange (HIE) allows multiple providers across different care settings to appropriately, efficiently, and securely share and access the patient’s information with each other and with their patient. Health centers have made tremendous progress in the adoption of certified EHRs, but for some, the ability to meaningfully use their EHRs to electronically exchange information has been harder to achieve.
This issue brief looks at the different types of HIEs along with the challenges and barriers associated with each.
