NOELA, a health center in New Orleans, is beating national rates for colon cancer screening.  Early screenings and treatment are key to surviving colon cancer, the second most deadly form of cancer among U.S. adults.  NOELA boosted its screening rates for the disease from 3 percent to 80 percent in six years, according to an article in The Times-Picayune.   The improvements came after the center hired a patient navigator to promote screenings among patients and educate them about the importance of screenings.
