Overview
The Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), created by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, is a $50 billion initiative (2026–2030) that supports states in improving healthcare access, quality, and outcomes in rural communities. The program gives states flexible funding to invest in key areas such as preventive care, chronic disease management, workforce recruitment, technology and data infrastructure, behavioral health, and innovative value-based care models.
States must design projects that address their most pressing rural health challenges, with funding distributed based on both equal baseline allocations and performance-based metrics. While states are the primary recipients, they are expected to partner with local providers—especially Community Health Centers and Primary Care Associations—to implement initiatives, expand access points, and build sustainable, community-driven healthcare systems in rural areas.
