Kim Mitroka is a driven leader, an innovative thinker, and a relentless advocate for community health centers.
In 1977, Kim Mitroka began pursuing her education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Although her original personal goal was to become a veterinarian, she was soon side tracked by a newly formed organization called Christopher Greater Area Rural Health Planning Corporation.
While attending SIU, Kim volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician with Christopher Rural Health Planning Corporation attending classes at Rend Lake College to obtain her certification. During this event, Kim also began working for CGARHPC in various capacities while attending college becoming involved in the Community Health Center movement.
In 1981, Kim was promoted as the Director of the Women, Infants, and Children’s Program for CRHPC. Over the next 4 years, Kim and her staff implemented WIC Programs in nine counties across southern Illinois where these services were un- developed.
In 1984, Kim was promoted to Associate Administrator for CRHPC and subsequently in 1989, she was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer. Kim has been the leader for CRHPC for more than 35 years experienced and weathered many changes in the CHC movement.
Kim’s organization has grown from a single clinic site in Christopher, Illinois serving 3,000 patients to 14 clinic sites located in 10 southern Illinois counties with a patient base of more than 45,000 patients and nearly 300 employees. Their facilities offer primary medical and dental care, behavioral health services, and on site and contract pharmacy services with 78 licensed professional providers.
Kim is a strong advocate for her southern Illinois communities assuring that rural small town patients receive quality, affordable health care for all. Her current projects are addressing the food deserts throughout her service area and the lack of public transportation creating barriers to care for the patients.
During Kim Mitroka’s career, she has served on the Illinois Primary Health Care Association Board of Directors as Chair, Vice-Chair, and currently serving as Secretary.
Kim Mitroka has also served as Regional Representative on the NACHC Board of Directors and participated in By-Laws, Subcommittee on Healthy Aging Health, Health Policy, Rural Health, Legislative, and Membership committees.
She is a Board Member of Health Choice Community Partners participating with other community health centers throughout the United States as an ACO for Medicare patients. HCCP is beginning the second year of participation and partners with Health Choice Care.
