Overview
Caring for the school-aged population is critical for Community Health Centers, as health plays a critical role in setting our children up for success in life inside and outside of school. Expanding services through School-Based Health Center (SBHC) sites is a growth and development strategy. Health centers sponsor over half of the approximately 3,000 SBHCs nationwide and represent the fastest-growing sponsorship.
SBHCs increase access to health care, contribute to positive educational outcomes, reduce emergency room use, lower Medicaid costs, and expand access to mental health services.
