Representing the largest primary care network in the United States, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) applauds the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announcement of more than $135 million to expand nutrition services and strengthen the rural health workforce. This investment recognizes what Community Health Centers (CHCs) have demonstrated for decades: nutrition services are essential to whole-person care in the communities that face the greatest barriers to health.
For over 60 years, CHCs have integrated food access, nutrition counseling, and chronic disease prevention into the comprehensive primary care model—whether through food for health initiatives, partnerships with local food systems, or innovative models that connect patients to healthy foods. This funding will help communities build on that foundation, especially in rural areas where CHCs are often the only source of affordable, comprehensive, and effective care. These new investments lay the foundation for the additional resources the Trump administration included in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget request.
NACHC, which represents 1,512 CHCs that serve more than 52 million patients—1 in 7 Americans, including 1 in 3 in rural America—looks forward to working with the Trump administration, HRSA, state primary care associations, and our health center members to ensure these new resources translate into sustainable solutions.
