Next week, Congress returns to Washington, D.C., after an in-district work period when they heard from Community Health Centers (CHCs) and their patients about the importance of protecting Medicaid. CHCs are proud to care for 1 in 5 Americans who have health insurance through Medicaid. Major changes to the program could terminate coverage for many and limit access to cost-effective primary care in the communities that health centers serve. Your advocacy is needed to urge Congress to protect Medicaid for patients, families, and health centers that provide access to care.
May Fly-In Day: NACHC is also hosting a National Fly-In Day in Washington, D.C. on May 13-14, 2025, to meet with lawmakers to help protect vital Medicaid services for CHC patients. Your stories, data, and local perspectives are essential as Congress navigates the budget reconciliation process and considers policy proposals impacting Medicaid. We must ensure decision-makers understand how these proposals directly affect constituents in their home districts.
Congressional In-District Meetings: Lastly, NACHC has been working in partnership with CHCs and state/regional PCAs to track progress toward our goal of 50 in-district meetings with Members of Congress in April. Thanks to your submissions, we are more than halfway to reaching the goal! Please use this form to share your feedback from any meetings.
But wait, there’s more … other ways to advocate
More ways you can act to let Congress know what Medicaid means to you and your community include:
- Share Medicaid patient stories to demonstrate who will lose coverage if cuts are made to the program. Health center staff who interact with Medicaid patients are well situated to collect videos and stories. These personal stories strengthen our advocacy efforts with persuadable Members of Congress.
- Collect and deliver postcards from your patients and board members.
- Continue meeting with Members of Congress and their staff. NACHC’s policy factsheets and meeting toolkit are helpful resources.
